Bank erosion along the Ashby Canal had created an unstable embankment, leading to ongoing deterioration.
The site required the installation of both underwater and above water prefilled concrete bagwork. To perform effectively, the underwater bagwork had to be placed entirely below the waterline, while the above water bagwork was installed fully above the waterline.
SoluForm’s underwater and above water prefilled concrete bagwork was specified for the scheme through The Rothen Group.
The installation was designed to provide a scour repair solution and long term stabilisation of the eroded bank. A continuous layer of underwater prefilled concrete bagwork was first installed to create a robust structural footing, preventing further scour along the embankment. Above this, the above water concrete bagwork was placed to form a structurally stable embankment wall profile.
This integrated system delivered immediate structural stability and an aesthetic finish. The underwater concrete bagwork provides the strength and durability required to accommodate future loading and constantly fluctuating water levels, while the above water concrete bagwork further reinforces the embankment and enhances the overall strength of the structure.
Overall, this method provided a practical, cost effective and environmentally responsible construction solution. It delivered a stable, long lasting foundation and retaining structure significantly reducing the risk of future erosion related failures.
