A Residential client required a robust solution to remediate an eroded embankment adjacent to the residence.
Kaymac Marine & Civil Engineering was commissioned to restore a collapsed section of embankment, approximately 10 metres in length, which had fallen into the Nant-y-Ffin a tributary of the River Amman adjacent to the client’s residence. This failure was caused by sustained heavy rainfall in the area.
The installation was undertaken to stabilise the embankment and mitigate ongoing erosion risks. It also served to provide effective scour protection along the property boundary, safeguarding against future scouring incidents. Given the restricted working area and limited access for heavy plant, conventional construction techniques were not feasible.
Following a thorough assessment of site constraints, Soluform bagwork comprising of both above and below concrete bagwork options was selected for the embankment repair. This approach requires minimal equipment, offers strong environmental credentials, allows for efficient installation, and delivers high hydraulic resistance.
Once in place, the concrete bagwork provides durable scour protection, contributing to the long-term stability of the embankment against future water flow and erosion. This solution proved both practical and environmentally conscious, addressing site limitations while ensuring embankment durability.
This approach offered a highly effective and environmentally sustainable method, meeting site access constraints while delivering long-term embankment durability.
